Lyndhurst Exhibition pictures - May & June 2019

This is a collection of the pictures I have in the Lyndhurst Art exhibition in May 2019.  Where one picture in the exhibition is part of a series, the complete series is shown in this blog post although it is not in the exhibition.  Go to the exhibition if you are local and let me know what you think. All the pictures are for sale.  I hope you want a few!

Framed pictures: Two sitting nudes adjusting their hair

Framed pictures: Two sleeping nudes

Sleeping nude on a blue quilt

Another sleeping nude on a blue quilt

In the racks and cards: Goshawk Chicks

These pastel paintings were done live at the Lyndhurst Nestcam on the Christchurch road last year.  This is the whole series.  Only the adult feeding the chicks is at the Lyndhurst exhibition.

In the racks and cards: Man building a wall

This picture is one of five drawings.  The complete set has the man in five positions from crouching to standing with his arms above his head.  above is the Youtube video in which the 5 pictures are animated. Below is the fthecomplete series of pictures.

In the racks and cards: Nude Forest

This is an in ipad painting which I did one day when sitting in the forest near Minstead.  The nude was added (also on the ipad) afterwards.  The video shows the process of painting - stroke by stroke.

Click on the video below to see how the forest drawing was created stroke by stroke.  I use my finger when I paint on the ipad.

In the racks and cards: Twitter art exhibition postcard

This is a postcard that I prepared for the Twitter art exhibition TAE19  in Edinburgh in aid of Art in Healthcare.  It is based of a previous portrait of them done by me.  We like to think of them having happy times.

Two drawings during breast feeding

Here are two drawings I made as I breast-fed my first child, Paul. On the first one, he is at my right breast.  My right arm cradles his head as he lays across my lap, and my right hand holds my sketchbook.  My left hand holds the pencil, as I am left-handed.

On the lower picture my baby is on the left breast, my left arm cradles his head and my left hand holds the sketchbook,  My right hand holds the pencil and it is not quite so easy to draw as I am not right-handed.

I am wondering if this set of two drawings is unique. Are there more drawings of the mother's/artist's eye view of breast feeding, and have been done as the baby actually fed.

I remember my baby gazing into my eyes and smiling constantly as he drunk. Then he stopped to smile and gaze at me - so sweet! I'm so glad I made these drawings.  It was summer 1960 in Waddington, Lincolnshire and my baby was 8 weeks old.

Nude of the day 59: Autumn forest glade with nude

The last three pictures were done at a different time to the others.

Please comment: I put these pictures up to see what people think so please comment. A raffle at the end gives everyone who comments the chance of a free print. Read below to learn how to make a comment.

The picture: The landscape was painted in the forest on my iPad.  The nude was added later. I always draw on the ipadwith my finger. Compare this with the previous picture "Splashes of Colour" which was also a finger paining. though with that one my hands got ain a mess. I often want to paint nudes in a landscape to make the picture more interesting. We often use this picture as a birthday card (adults only) as it always gives the birthday person a good laugh.

I used the original Brushes ap on the ipad for the painting and you can watch it being painted on this video. Click here for the video. The nude was added later.

Nude of the day 58: Splashes of colour

Please comment: I put these pictures up to see what people think so please comment. A raffle at the end gives everyone who comments the chance of a free print. Read below to learn how to make a comment.

The picture: I used no tools for this picture, I used my fingers as a child might paint with ketchup and mayonaise on the kitchen table with her fingers.  I used my finger tips and nails.  You can see the finger nail marks on the side of the torso on the left of the picture and the zig-zag in the background.  The colours used were Maimeri acrylics primary colours:
   yellow 116
   cyan 400
   magenta 256
and a spot of white paint here and there.  The dark black mass was as mixtureof all three colours, and I scratched out an ear-ring while the paint was still wet. I got the flesh tones with an underwash of yellow. These three Maimeri colous will make most of the colours you ever need. I think a stick was used also as well as my fingers.

What do you think? I get pretty messy when I finger paint in this way but I enjoy it. I also paint with my fingertip on my iPad,  See the iPad picture of a nude in a landscape which is coming tomorrow. Have you tried finger painting? Let me know.

Nude of the day 57: Beautiful bone structure - strong light

Please comment: I put these pictures up to see what people think so please comment. A raffle at the end gives everyone who comments the chance of a free print. Read below to learn how to make a comment.

The picture: Blue-black pastel on white paper with smudging technique. Close up of a woman's head and upper body.

What do you think? I like the light on the cheekbones. The swept up hair was fun to do, I also liked the sweeping lines of the very light drapery around the back of her neck and down her breast and the diagonal sweep of the drapery, How about you?

Nude of the day 56: Strong sunlight on a dark body

Please comment: I put these pictures up to see what people think so please comment. A raffle at the end gives everyone who comments the chance of a free print. Read below to learn how to make a comment.

The picture: Seated female nude.  Pastel on sandy brown pastel card.  Bright green and yellow behind the  the figure her hair tie in a small bun.  She is seated on a stool with a dark magenta covering.

What do you think? This is a light drawing but the emphasis is on the golden sunlight as it falls on the model's body.  The fleshtakes its shade colours entirely from the background colour of the pastel card.  Do you like the effect?

Nude of the day 55: Complex thought

Please comment: I put these pictures up to see what people think so please comment. A raffle at the end gives everyone who comments the chance of a free print. Read below to learn how to make a comment.

The picture: Pastel redrawn on the computer using Corel Painter and a Wacom tablet.

What do you think? I rather like the wild colours and lines I added to the original on the computer.  I think I was drawing her complex thoughts in the diagonal colours behind.  I think she is working out her future.  I like the swirl of her hand pointing down, the hair sweeping down. the spine sweepintg down. Is she in shallow water? What do you think?

Video of nude drawn stroke by stroke We have just found this video we made some time ago showing a nude drawing being painted stroke by stroke. You can watch the picture grow from nothing to a finished nude sketch.  We thought you might find it interesting.
