Nude a day 54 – Ringlets on my shoulder

19 x 41 cm Water-soluble crayon (Aquabrique) on white paper act as sharp and broad crayons and colour wash.

The crayon was used for the thick marks and the fine lines. An interesting pose, see how the weight of the body is on the left hip while the right hip is released and drops down lowering the right buttock.

Nude a day 52 – That's cool with me

18 x 30.5 Pastel on sand-coloured Ingres Fabriano paper.

The paper is used as a shadow colour with light peach pastel highlights. I like the model's nonchalant air as she toys with her cigarette holder.

Nude a day 46: See a pin and pick it up

See a pin and pick it up - All the day you'll have good luck!

See a pin and let it lie - Have bad luck until you die!

All because of a pin! Anyway,

I had good luck that day. I am very pleased with this sketch.

Nude a day 43: The kiss

Special picture for my granddaughters Anouk and Juna who love all dogs especially their own.

Use this as your Valentine
I thought you might like to use this picture for your Valentine so here is the poem to go with it, written by my husband Nick.

The scene was so sweet, spontaneous, romantic! My model brought her dog. She struck this unusual pose and I quickly placed the limbs and the extreme angle and forgot the proportions! Her dog ran up to her and give her a kiss on the lips. Such a lovely moment!

Picture: Pastel on pastel paper.

Nude-a-day 18: Looking out to sea

Charcoal drawing 28 x 27 cm

Here I have darkened the area to the right of her back to emphasise the light falling on it from the right. I sometimes draw a little sun to remind me the direction of the source of the light. This is a 15 minute pose.

Nude-a-day 17: Planning the day

Pastel on yellow paper 29 x 28.5 cm

I ask myself "What is my figure thinking" and I use and I use the answer as a title for my picture. I used the light yellow colour of the paper as a flesh tone most noticeable on her upper body. I use the texture of the paper to break up the pastel strokes thus allowing it to happen.

The red-haired model kneels on the grass looking up with her hands on a grass ground.

Thoughts after the first week

I really love to “draw from life.” I have done this since I was 16 and I'm now 83. As I draw I am in deep meditation and every time I feel different.I can't guess how my work will go,It has its own rules and I am just so excited at where it takes me. It's like going on an adventure. The results are not “Good” or “Bad”. The results aren't as important to me as the actual experience of creating.

I hope you like this series of nude studies. If you like them enough, you can buy the original: £100 unframed plus P & P. Email me for more information at nandnjmellersh@yahoo.co.uk.

Day 8: Adjusting her hair - front view

Three-minute pose. Charcoal on pastel paper, female nude, full frontal pose, sitting, arms up, hands behind her head, which is looking down towards her left side. Right toe tucked behind left thigh, her balance is quite perfect.  This pose is similar to the back view in the previous post on January 7th, but the pose is not the same.  I would like to see them hung as a pair, like the picture below.  I would put them so that they are looking towards each other, rather than looking as if they are two women who are not speaking to each other even though it ise the same model.
