Nude a day 60: Two three-minute poses

News!  Jeanie is currently running a "How to Draw" people class on Youtube.  First lesson is here and you can follow the series from her channel "Colourfulworld of Jeanie" (Non-English people note the "u" in "Colourful"!!)

I like these two poses showing the model's graceful figure.

Nude a day - Last one today|

After 60 nude,s one every day in January and February I am ending this series today Feb 29th 2020.  There will be occasional posts on this blog over the next months - some nudes, some other things.  Thanks to everyone who looked at this series. Let me know if you have enjoyed them.

Two videos about drawing

Video 1: Watch this - and start drawing

To mark the end of the series Jeanie has produced another video encouraging everyone to draw.  It includes her drawing an under 2-minute sketch of her husband Nick. See below.

Video 2: How to draw nudes

This video shows how Jeanie went about this drawing. She drew two very quick pictures, one of which is shown above. They demonstrate gesture drawing.

Nude a day 59: Crouching in evening sunlight

Pastel on sand coloured pastel paper.

This was a short pose but a complex one with the sun lighting her up from behind.  I like it.

Nude a day - ending in tomorrow

After 60 nudes Jeanie will end this series on Feb 29th 2020.  There will be occasional posts on this blog - some nudes, some other things.

Nude a day 57: The first woman on earth

Pastel on black pastel paper

This was an experiment – pastel on black pastel card, using a lot of light ochres and tangerines as flesh tones. I allowed the black card to take the shadow areas. All the colours behind her are singing out loudly over the black surface. It's good to let the lovely vibrant pastels glow like this!

Nude a day 56 – Stretching on a pink quilt

35 x 25 cm Pastel on dark green pastel paper.

Unusually, I have not included the paper colour for tones. I have obliterated all the paper colour with light orange-yellow pastel and darker cool colours with white for highlights.

This pose shows the amazing suppleness of the model's body!

Nude a day 55 – Lifting high

Charcoal on water colour paper. 27 x 48 cm

I like the tooth on this paper. It seems to give strength to the drawing. On the shadowed areas, I smeared the thick charcoal outline into and below the muscles.

This pose emphasises the leg muscles of this strong man.

Nude a day 51 Clasping her knee

15.5 x 36.5 cm Charcoal on peach coloured paper

I like the strong drawing of the body. Hatched charcoal is used to create the shadows.

Nude a day 36: Reading the paper

Pastel on sand coloured pastel paper 26 x 30 cm

I like the overall softness, the delicate colours and the suggestion rather than the sharply defined features. Like a soft summer haze, this is how it turned out.

Nude a day 35: This feels so good

Charcoal on white paper. 39 x 27.5 cm

When I looked at this picture, a few weeks after I drew it, I thought at first, she looked really sad, and then I saw it in a new light. She is really relaxed in all her body and her arms comfortably lie crossed over her ankles. Her head and hair are gently resting, and she is ready to enjoy the moment. I love this pose. It is very sculptural – it all fits into place.

Nude a day 34: Just climbing to that next branch

Charcoal on white paper. 22 x 39.5 cm

The charcoal is very chunky and thick, and the lines are drawn over and over – maybe some of them are good ones. I like the big real action in the drawing. He's just about to swing up and out of the picture.

Nude a day 33: In dreamland with red curls

Pastel on water colour paper 21 x38 cm

Here's anther pastel on white paper (not a good choice.) I like the intense dark blue background and the very light ice-blue version of it on the quilt. The hips make a lovely undulating line. I can see them as a huge garden sculpture, or the line of hills in a landscape, foliage in the foreground. I love the effects the rough surface of the paper gives.

Nude a day 31: I'm taking a break

Pastel and water colour on white paper. 22 x 36 cm

She's half stretching, half leaning (is there a word for this?) I've combined water colour and pastel – not a clever combination but I reached in haste for whatever effects I could put down speedily. Water colour is transparent, pastels opaque, and it's a bit like a bacon and meringue sandwich. Not a good combination.. but I do like the air of arrogance or peace about the picture. Pastels are best on textured tones paper – avoid white paper, like I used here,

Nude a day 30: Holding my toe

Brown pastel on white paper, 31 x 29 cm

I like the very simple line on this one. Has she got a splinter? She looks a bit in pain. We can't always smile for our pictures, so this is different.

Nude a day 29 Light-hearted thoughts

Water soluble crayons and water. 24 x 49 cm

Often I imagine what the model is thinking or saying and that becomes the title, as it has here. Did you look at “Nude a day 22 Arm on Red bar”? I used these water soluble crayon blocks, called “Aqua Brique” for the first time on that painting, and I've used them here for the second time. They were very different from anything I have used before. I marked the paper with the block . There was an explosion of colour as I touched the marks with water, a wonderful volcanic eruption of art.

On this picture I used subtlety (you WHAT!!??) and moments later I ran parts of the picture under a gentle stream of tap water. I enjoy these sorts of adventures. The colours are very crude. Enjoy, (especially my granddaughter Natasha and my niece Sophie who like coloured nudes.)

Nude a day 27: Bulbs to plant

Charcoal on white paper. 22x41 cm

I like to draw figures working on an activity. He is sorting a bowl of bulbs before planting. This loose charcoal technique portrays the heavy body of a well-built man.

Nude a day 25: Cheek on my arm

Charcoal on white paper. 25.5 x 40 cm

Charcoal is so versatile and will give you all the depths and subtleties of a black and white photograph. The black can be so intense a black and the delicate softest smudges like a faint drift of smoke almost invisible, fine and delicate. You can draw with so delicate a touch the charcoal almost floats over the surface or with such energy the charcoal splutters into fragments as you draw the fine line. Yet it is so very inexpensive. Sometimes I draw with a chunk out of a spent bonfire. That is so unpredictable, it is quite an adventure. The final result can be fixed with an aerosol spray. The drawing will not fade or darken for an extremely long time.

Nude a day 24: My poodle hat

Five-minute pose. Water-soluble crayon and water plus brush on water-colour paper. 21 x 36 cm
